*  Forth Annual Batavia Kill Stream Celebration, August 7, 2010 from 10 am-5 pm in Ashland, NY.  Come celebrate the beauty and wonder of Catskill Mountain streams through interactive exhibits, display booths, guided stream walks, and a host of activities for children and adults alike! The 4th Annual Batavia Kill Stream Celebration is a Free Event for people of all ages who have an interest in learning about the environment and the importance of stream stewardship.  The event will offer many “festival activities” including interactive displays, active programs, games, great food, prizes, and music.  The Celebration will also promote environmental awareness by stressing the importance of the Batavia Kill Stream as a valuable natural resource for the local communities and the region as a whole, particularly New York City.  For more information visit:  http://www.gcswcd.com/wap/EO/bksc/ - or for information on volunteering contact Josh Gorman at 518-589-6871 or josh@gcswcd.com

*  First Annual Riparian Buffer Workshop on Saturday, July 31.  Join the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for this free workshop that will take place onboard the Delaware & Ulster Railroad’s round-trip service from Arkville to Roxbury along the scenic East Branch of the Delaware River. This is a fun and exciting opportunity for landowners and community members alike to learn about the importance of riparian (streamside) areas, how proactive management can protect streamside property and water quality, and various techniques for restoring and improving riparian buffers. The event will begin at the Arkville railroad station at 1:30 pm and the train will return to Arkville by 4:00 pm. Registration deadline is Friday, July 23. Space is limited and reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to register for this workshop, please contact Catherine Skalda or Adam Stewart at (607) 865-5223.

Welcome
Welcome to Catskill Streams, devoted to inspiring streamside landowners and the larger watershed community to live in harmony with Catskill creeks and rivers and the beautiful landscape they support. Catskill Streams
The natural and cultural heritage of the Catskill region is inextricably linked to the unique high quality streams that course through its mountains and valleys and play a defining role in the character of its landscape. Recreation in and around these Catskill streams provides residents and visitors with a myriad of opportunities to reconnect with the natural world. The streams also provide 1.4 billion gallons of clean drinking water each day to over nine million residents in New York City and some smaller municipalities (nearly half the population of New York State).

Well-informed living along Catskill streams begins with understanding stream basics – the important environmental functions and services streams provide and the relationships among these functions. With this foundation, the visitor can view stream stewardship from three stream locations: instream, streamside or watershed community.

Please contact our partner agencies and organizations for further information.
